There’s been talk about Gary Ross leaving for over a week now. Yet with all the fan support and the way everyone was talking we just couldn’t fathom that the negotiations were more then a speed bump in the road to Catching Fire.
Now we have an official word saying “it’s over” from both Lionsgate and Gary Ross himself.
Despite recent speculation in the media, and after difficult but sincere consideration, I have decided not to direct Catching Fire. As a writer and a director, I simply don’t have the time I need to write and prep the movie I would have wanted to make because of the fixed and tight production…
We think Peetatoast on Tumblr summed up fans reactions best:
He left because he didn’t want to let us and himself down, as fans. He doesn’t think he can make this movie in such a short window they are forcing him to have. He left because he cares about us. What an incredible man. It breaks my heart.
Nobody can replace Gary, but somebody has to take the reins. But who?
Our votes are split between Kathryn Bigelow (Hurt Locker) and Neill Blomkamp (District 9). No matter who takes over though I feel we(as a fandom) should trust them until they give us a reason to think otherwise.
