There’s been talk about Gary Ross leaving for over a week now. Yet with all the fan support and the way everyone was talking we just couldn’t fathom that the negotiations were more then a speed bump in the road to Catching Fire.

Now we have an official word saying “it’s over” from both Lionsgate and Gary Ross himself.

Despite recent speculation in the media, and after difficult but sincere consideration, I have decided not to direct Catching Fire. As a writer and a director, I simply don’t have the time I need to write and prep the movie I would have wanted to make because of the fixed and tight production…

We think Peetatoast on Tumblr summed up fans reactions best:

He left because he didn’t want to let us and himself down, as fans. He doesn’t think he can make this movie in such a short window they are forcing him to have. He left because he cares about us. What an incredible man. It breaks my heart.

Nobody can replace Gary, but somebody has to take the reins. But who?

Our votes are split between Kathryn Bigelow (Hurt Locker) and Neill Blomkamp (District 9). No matter who takes over though I feel we(as a fandom) should trust them until they give us a reason to think otherwise.

Mark your calenders!

On June 23-24 in Chicago fans will have a chance to geek out with stars and other fans from the Hunger Games franchise.

Actors already scheduled to appear:

  • Willow Shields(Prim)
  • Jackie Emerson(Foxface)
  • Amandla Stenburg(Rue)
  • Dayo Okeniyi(Thresh)

Things like ticket prices haven’t been released yet, but you can already bet we’ll be their to cover the event. (It’s lucky we have staff members in the Midwest!)

This is NOT a drill. Prepare to panic, people! You’re getting two Gary Ross posts in two days but dammit, there’s good reason!

Gary Ross–

Is this.. Are you… Are you breaking up with us?

No. No! NOT REAL! This fandom is about to become your crazy ex-girlfriend that refuses to just let you go without a damn good explanation!

You’ve always seemed like a passionate, down-to-Earth fan. You weren’t some director who was only looking to make The Hunger Games into the next big franchise. You understood its depth and intricacies. You never took the power of the fanbase for granted, either.

While it’s true that the movie was not absolutely perfect, it was one of the best book-to-film adaptations we can name in recent years. Sure, there’s a few points that could have been explained more thoroughly, like the District 12 salute and why Peeta joins up with…
