Francis Lawrence, best known for his work in I Am Legend has been formally offered the role of director for Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire.

There were plenty of great contenders on the list like Miller and Inarritu, but in the end he fit the bill(and Lionsgate’s fall production schedule) the best. Water for Elephants was a great book to film adaptation. We’ve seen him work drama, action, and sci-fi. I think he’ll be a great fit.

Personally, the fact that he’s done work that I’ve enjoyed, including Constantine and I Am Legend, makes me feel good about this decision. He has experience with the genre. I just hope the fandom stays positive and realize this can take the franchise to new heights.

How do you feel about him?

LA Times previously reported that David Cronenberg, Alfonso Cuaron and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu are being eyed by Lionsgate to direct the Hunger Games sequel. Now we have a few more names to add to this “short list” of possible directors for Catching Fire. (Which if we keep adding names at this rate it won’t be a shortlist much longer)

Two names are now added to the potential list of Catching Fire directors. According to Playlist Bennet Miller and Francis Lawrence are being considered for the job, and that  ’some conversations with them have already begun’.

Bennet Miller directed Moneyball and Capote. Francis Lawrence’ works include Constantine, I Am Legend  and Water for Elephants.

Honestly our staff isn’t sure about Bennet Miller. I haven’t seen anything he’s directed so it’s difficult for me to form an opinion. Francis Lawrence on the other hand I love. He his my favorite name on the “short list” as of now. The style of I Am Legend would go perfectly with the dark indie feel that was set up in the first Hunger Games Film.

I just wish Lionsgate would make an official announcement so we can stop the wondering already.
